An international symposium themed "Environment, Development and Human Rights: Green and Low-carbon Development in the Process of Modernization" was held in Beijing on August 15, 2024. Ding Zhongli, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, attended the event.

Following a people-centered development philosophy, China advances the modernization of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, and promotes the all-round development of the human rights cause, Ding said in the speech.

The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China recently held has made systematic arrangements for further comprehensively deepening reform, and clearly put forward major measures to deepen the reform of the ecological civilization system. All parties have more aspirations and expectations for the bright future of building a beautiful China, he said.

“At present, the international community has increasingly recognized that green and low-carbon development has become a key to global modernization and is of great significance to the development of the global human rights cause. We should promote concept innovation, adhere to the guidance of science and technology, strengthen multi-dimensional empowerment, and advocate openness and cooperation to better benefit the people of all countries,” he added.

The event was co-hosted by the China Foundation for Human Rights Development and China Datang Corp.
