Ahead of China Youth Volunteer Service Day, the Rural Revitalization • Senior Care Initiative organized a themed care activity in Fengning on March 1-2, helping fulfill the heartfelt small wishes of local elderly villagers.
Nearly 30 corporate volunteers joined the program, together with medical professionals and local volunteers, to bring practical support and companionship to seniors in need.
The activity followed an earlier Spring Festival outreach, during which volunteers collected the wishes of local elderly residents. Some had asked for wheelchairs or hearing aids, while others hoped to learn basic rehabilitation skills or online shopping.
On March 2, just before the Lantern Festival, volunteers delivered these promised items directly to seniors’ homes, including wheelchairs, hearing aids, anti-pressure sore cushions, walking sticks and insulated cups. They also brought specially formulated milk powder for the elderly, along with practical advice on nutrition and healthy eating.
Beyond material support, the event also provided hands-on professional care. Care specialists instructed family caregivers on daily nursing skills such as repositioning bedridden seniors, back patting and pressure sore prevention. They also guided the elderly with simple exercises and conducted health checks, including blood pressure, blood glucose and blood oxygen monitoring.
Medical staff provided services such as hearing aid fitting, medication guidance and rehabilitation assessment. Local volunteers also helped coordinate home visits and supported seniors in learning how to shop online, addressing both their practical and emotional needs.
As the activity concluded, many elderly residents and their families warmly thanked the volunteers and saw them off.
From collecting wishes to answering them with concrete support, the program brought together community, professional and corporate support to help build a more sustainable rural elderly care network, helping more rural seniors enjoy accessible and caring services.
