The "Bookish China•Public Welfare Cinema", a patriotic education project, was launched at the Yangzhou Grand Canal Theater on April 29 to mark the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army.

Jointly developed by the China Foundation for Human Rights Development (CFHRD), China Digital Library Corp., Ltd., Yangzhou Grand Canal Cultural Investment Group Co., Ltd. and China Film Group Co., Ltd., the project will provide public-interest screenings of The Long March and other revolutionary-themed films for primary and secondary school students.

Qin Liang, deputy secretary-general of the CFHRD; Jia Huixia, head of the foundation’s fund project department; Yao Ting, chairman of China Digital Library Corp., Ltd.; Ma Wei, deputy manager of China Film Innovation Film Development (Beijing) Co., Ltd.; Jiao Qingbiao, deputy secretary of the CPC Yangzhou Municipal Committee and secretary-general of the committee; and Liu Liu, vice mayor of Yangzhou, attended the event.

Project unveiled in Yangzhou

Located at the confluence of the Yangtze River and the Grand Canal, Yangzhou has prospered through waterways and culture. The city also has a strong revolutionary tradition, with red cultural resources rooted along the banks of the Grand Canal.

At the Yangzhou stop, the public welfare project focuses on the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March. It will organize screenings of a series of revolutionary films, including The Long March, for teachers and students in primary and secondary schools, using films to bring history closer to young audiences and pass on the Long March spirit.

Representatives of the organizers jointly unveiled the project and presented a plaque to the Yangzhou Grand Canal Theater, marking the official launch of the patriotic education initiative in the city.

 

Films to carry forward Long March spirit

To deepen cooperation, the CFHRD, China Digital Library Corp., Ltd. and China Film Group Co., Ltd. will work with China Film Innovation Film Development (Beijing) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Film Group, to implement the project at the Yangzhou Grand Canal Theater.

The screening list includes films on the Long March and the history of the Communist Party of China, such as The Long March, Sparkling Red Star and Across Ten Thousand Rivers and One Thousand Mountains, as well as major productions including The Volunteers trilogy and Dead to Rights.

The organizers said these films will help open a window for students to understand history and form ideals, while exploring a new model for revolutionary culture education and patriotic education in theater settings represented by the Yangzhou Grand Canal Theater.

The project will continue to focus on major historical milestones and revolutionary themes, and will be carried out in more cities and scenarios in a planned way. Through film education, it aims to guide children to strengthen their ideals, develop a positive understanding of history and grow into a new generation with a sense of mission and responsibility.
