A donation event under the “Shuxiang China” public welfare initiative was held in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, on July 26 to mark the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March.

The event was jointly organized by the China Foundation for Human Rights Development (CFHRD), the Publicity Department and the Social Work Department of the CPC Xizang Autonomous Regional Committee, and the China Digital Library, with support from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and other organizations.

As part of the program, 66 digital library systems and 1,000 classic works on China's revolutionary history were donated to Chengguan District in Lhasa and Medog County in Nyingchi. Film projection equipment was also donated to the Xizang grand theatre for free public screenings.

Qin Liang, vice secretary-general of CFHRD, said the foundation and the China Digital Library have launched a series of public welfare programs to mark the 90th anniversary of the Long March victory, with a focus on primary and secondary schools across the country.

The digital library systems provide students with a wide range of reading materials, including resources on China's revolutionary history, giving young people easier access to cultural and educational content, Qin said.

He added that the donations in Lhasa and Nyingchi are intended to bring stories of the Long March closer to young readers through both digital and printed resources, helping them better understand and carry forward the Long March spirit.

Liao Ken, executive deputy head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Xizang Autonomous Regional Committee, said the Long March spirit has been passed down through generations and remains a source of strength. He called on the recipients to make good use of the donated resources and translate the support into concrete action and momentum for development.

He Hua, deputy head of the Social Work Department of the CPC Xizang Autonomous Regional Committee, said the donation responds to grassroots needs and is a concrete effort to better serve and engage local communities.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, He Manchu, an official from Medog County, said the digital library systems would help address shortages of reading resources in local primary and secondary schools while providing fresh momentum for digital education.

By bringing a large collection of quality books and digital resources directly to schools, the program will give children in the remote border county more convenient and equitable access to reading and modern educational resources, he said.

Following the donation event, representatives of primary and secondary school students, officials and local residents watched a Long March-themed film at a public film service center in Xizang.
